VILLAGER TO VILLAGER:
Each month we hope to share a villager's experience with a health issue and how that person is working to deal with it. If you have had an experience with a health issue and would like to contribute to this column, call Marc Narkus-Kramer or email him.

This month, Marc and his wife, Grazina share their positive experience with a FREE workshop entitled "Healthier Living with Chronic Pain."

Marc reported the workshop was a six-week course, based on Sandra Lefort's, et.al. book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain. The class met weekly for 2 1/2 hours to learn skills to cope with chronic pain. "We learned how chronic pain can affect mood, energy, and relationships with others. There is a cycle of chronic pain that leads to a lack of sleep, decreased exercise, depression, isolation and a feeling of helplessness.
The course was not focused on a medical solution though we learned how to evaluate the medical advice we have been given. Rather, the course  focused on behavioral tools that really help in managing chronic pain. After learning the recommended behavioral tools, we developed an individualized action plan to carry out the behavioral changes that we were taught. The class gave us the tools to manage chronic pain."
While the class has ended, new classes will be forming in the new year. If you are suffering from chronic pain and need tools to help you deal with it, call 858-495-5500 for more information.

Two other courses by the same group deal with all chronic conditions and diabetes. You can read about them at:

Why Italian Fathers and Grandfathers pass their handguns down through the family.

An old Italian man is dying. He calls his grandson to his bedside, Guido, I wan' you lissina me. I wan' you to take-a my chrome plated .38 revolver so you will always remember me."
"But grandpa, I really don't like guns. How about you leave me your Rolex watch instead?"
"You lissina me, boy. Somma day you gonna be runna da business, you gonna have a beautiful wife, lotsa money, a big-a home and maybe a couple of bambinos."
"Somma day you gonna come-a home and maybe finda you wife inna bed with another man.  Whatta you gonna do then? Pointa to you watch and say, 'times up'?"

Two sociologists are sitting by the pool. One turns to the other and asks, “Have you read Marx?” to which he replies, “Yes, it’s these damn wicker chairs.”

“Did you hear about the fire at the circus?
The heat was in tents.”

“What do you call a row of rabbits jumping backward?
A receding hare line.”

“What did the cannibal get when he turned up late to dinner?
The cold shoulder.”

How many divorced men does it take to change a light bulb?
Who cares? They never get the house anyway”

Can’t quite remember one of our shamelessly
plagiarized jokes?  It’s probably in the archive
