The Friday Classic Movie is “Atonement,” a WWII Drama/ Romance.

This movie is a highly charged romantic epic set in the upscale countryside of war torn England during WW II.
It is a story of jealousy and passion.  When a jealous
young sister (Ronan) witnesses a private moment
between big sister Cecilia (Knightly) and a servant (McAvoy), she creates a vicious lie that changes the
course of two people's lives, and that of a wealthy
family's history.

TVSD Tenth Anniversary!
Funding Drive Progressing Well!

Village Historian Trish Newbill wants to remind everyone that plans are being formulated for celebrating the TVSD Tenth Anniversary, coming up in September 2018!  Your input is being solicited for ideas on the best way to memorialize this milestone.  Also very useful would be documents, photos and mementos related to the early days of the Village, and testimonials about just what the Village means to you.

Please
contact Trish if you have any of the above to offer, or can help her put this project together!

A former Sergeant in the Marine Corps took a new job as a high school teacher.  Just before the school year started, he injured his back.  He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body.  Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn't noticeable.

On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart aleck punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom.

Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk.  When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.

Dead silence.....

The rest of the year went very smoothly

In an American history discussion group, the professor was trying to explain how society’s ideal of beauty changes with time. “For example,” he said, “take the 1921 Miss America. She stood five feet, one inch tall, weighed 108 pounds and had measurements of 30-25-32. How do you think she’d do in today’s version of the contest?”

The class fell silent for a moment. Then one student piped up, “Not very well.”

“Why is that?” asked the professor.

“For one thing” the student pointed out, “She’d be about a hundred years old!”

On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students, pointing out some of the rules. “The female dormitory will be out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to the female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will be fined $20 the first time.”

He continued, “Anybody caught breaking this rule the second time will be fined $60. Being caught a third time will incur a hefty fine of $180. Are there any questions?”

At this, a male student in the crowd inquired, “How much for a season pass?!”

At dinner, a little boy was asked to lead the prayer.

"But I don't know how to pray," he protests.

“Just pray for your family members, friends and neighbors, the poor, and thank God for the good food we are about to eat.," says his father.

"Okay," stuttered the boy.  I'll try. "Dear Lord, . . . Thank you for our visitors and their children, who finished all my cookies and ice cream.  Bless them so they won't come back again.  Forgive our neighbor's son, who removed my sister's clothes and wrestled with her on her bed.  This coming Christmas, please send clothes to all those poor naked ladies on my daddy's Blackberry, and provide shelter for the homeless men, who use mom's room, when daddy is at work.   AMEN"

Dinner was immediately canceled.
