 | President's Message
This is a busy time of the year for TVSD’s Board of Directors. In December, the finance team began pulling together a 2025 budget to present to the Board at its January meeting. After discussions and potential adjustments, the final proposed budget will be presented for approval at the February Board meeting.
We continue to digest the results of our recent member survey. The number one request was for transportation, so we are working on identifying the most efficient way to offer the service to our members by using our member volunteers. This encompasses learning the Club Express software we can use to manage the requests by matching them with providers. We began the process of getting some additional members vetted as approved drivers. What we learn from this will allow us to advance to offering other services that were identified as needs by our members.
Our annual meeting will be held on March 3, 2025. The Board will be pulling together an agenda that we hope will be of interest to everyone.
As a follow up to the Board’s November vote to expand the TVSD membership beyond Tierrasanta, we now need to write a definition of what non-resident members will, and will not, have access to in terms of the services TVSD provides. They will not have access to the Time Bank, and likely will have limited or no access to care related assistance. Once the Board has drawn up the specifics, we will share them with the membership and ask for comments/feedback. We will not accept any new non-resident members until we complete this process.
Edward Everett Hale, an American author, historian and Unitarian minister has been quoted as follows: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
Best Wishes for a safe and happy holiday season, and beyond.

New Tierrasanta Village Supporting Partner
The TVSD Board of Directors is pleased to announce a new Supporting Partner, Sean Robinson, owner of Precision Floor & Decor and Precision Drain Specialists. Sean began working in the trades in 1988, gaining extensive experience in retail sales and flooring installation before launching his first flooring business in 2007. In 2013, he began his full-service remodel contracting business, Precision Floor & Decor, combining expertise with a passion for excellence. Sean strives to provide honest, open communication, and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every renovation experience is seamless. Check out some recent renovation project photos here!
Sean's second business, Precision Drain Specialists, can assist with any plumbing dilemma. With a team of skilled professionals equipped to tackle any plumbing challenge, Sean and his team are able to assess and resolve a plumbing issue, large or small. They have years of experience with pipe installation, replacement, cleaning, repairing burst pipes, and more. Sean's top priority in his drain specialty business is to ensure that customers receive reliable service, expert advice, and peace of mind when it comes to their plumbing needs. Thank you Sean for Supporting Tierrasanta Village!
Another Supporting Partner, Founder Erica Sell of Harmony Home Medical Supply, has worked with Sean for over 5 years. Together they help owners to age in place through home remodeling modification. For example, Harmony Home Medical sells a variety of stair lifts and helps customers to choose the ideal options for their home. Erica and Sean then work together to ensure proper installation of the selected chair lift. Similarly, Erica and her team will help design a bathroom remodel plan, handling all design details to help create a new age-friendly space. She then relies on Sean to implement that plan, working together to ensure an easy installation for every client.
As a special discount, Harmony Home Medical offers TVSD members a free home safety, accessibility and home modification consultation. Call the store anytime for immediate assistance at (858) 560-8177 or contact the Village Front Desk for more information.

Having a Pet is Good For You!
Do you have a cat or dog? Fish, bird, hamster? You may think that they improve your life in many ways, and you would be right! They are good for both your physical and mental health. Here are some of the benefits:
Social Interaction: Pets can create opportunities for seniors to engage with others. Taking your pet out for a walk can allow you to meet other people on the way. Pets are good ice-breakers for starting conversations. Our own Tierrasanta Village Dog Pack get-togethers are fun social gatherings both for us and for our dogs.
Physical Activity: Walking, playing with, chasing, and caring for our pets increases our physical activity.
Companionship and Emotional Support: A pet is a constant, reliable presence, and a source of love and care. Having a pet reduces isolation and loneliness.
And here is a bonus for those who live alone—
Reduced Cognitive Decline: A study of almost 8,000 older adults published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that “having a pet was associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline, specifically composite verbal cognition, verbal memory and verbal fluency”. *
So, if you have a pet, that’s good! And if you are considering getting a pet, now you have more reason to do so!

There's still time to register!
As mobility, hearing, vision and balance diminish with aging, we must find ways to remain safe in our homes. There is plenty of technology to help meet these challenges. On January 10th members will meet for lunch at Elijah’s Delicatessen and then head over to tour Harmony Home Medical Supply. Owner Erica Sell will show us around and let us check out all the options and latest technology to help us age safely and independently at home. Harmony Home Medical has an extensive inventory, providing walkers, grab bars, fall alert devices, adjustable beds, electric scooters, stair lifts, and other home modification equipment, to ensure that you have all the tools necessary to age comfortably and safely in place. Please register here if you are able to attend.

You may not know that the Industrial Grind Coffee Shop, on Santo Road next to the Post Office, is operated by an amazing baker. In addition to coffee, the shop sells incredible desserts and even a few breakfast items like frittatas, parfaits and muesli. The shop operator, Crystal Jones, has a passion for baking and she has started offering hands on classes to teach others as well. Recently, TVSD member Joann Reichenbacher and TVSD staff member Cassandra Hanrahan had the opportunity to attend one of Crystal's chocolate making classes and have been raving about it ever since.
Cassandra and Joann have offered to help arrange a similar class for other members if there is enough interest. The class(es) could occur on Thursday 2/13 and/or Friday 2/14 (Valentine's Day) depending on members interest level. Each class would be held 2-3:30 p.m. and attendees could enjoy lunch at KNB Bistro before the class. The cost is usually $45 for the 1.5 hours class. Each attendee leaves with 4 gourmet chocolate bars, created with their favorite ingredients, along with 6 mendiants also made to their liking. If there is a lot of interest among TVSD members, the owner will lower the cost to $35.
If you would be interested in attending a class, please reply to this newsletter email and note if you are available 2/13, 2/14 or both dates. Cassandra & Joann will keep you updated regarding date and possible costs.
Invite Your Friends & Family! Let's get a large group together for this fun event. Please invite others and even grandkids, although they likely need to be 10 or older to enjoy the class. Include the number of guests you may bring in your reply. You can also text or call the Village cell phone to share your interest in attending at 858-569-9119.
