Jinny Batterson - Member-At-Large
Jinny Batterson has spent most of her life so far living up and down the U.S. East Coast. She and husband Jim moved to San Diego mid-2021 to be close to part of the younger generations of Battersons.
Prior to retirement, she had two “bookended” careers in multiple locales, one as a foreign language teacher, the other as a computer programmer and systems analyst. Just after college, she taught French at an urban junior high school in Baltimore. She then switched to a business “computer language” and spent nearly four decades writing and maintaining custom software for a variety first of employers and then of clients. During her non-work waking hours, she helped raise two children to adulthood and served on the boards of several local non-profits.
In her late 50’s, increasingly bored and somewhat technically obsolete, she reinvented herself as a foreign English teacher, with multiple assignments in parts of rural China. Her most exotic work assignment, though, came during the 1980’s,when she taught accounting and basic computer skills as part of a Peace Corps affiliated assignment in a small French-speaking country in Africa.
Jinny learned about Tierrasanta Village a few months after arriving in San Diego. She joined with her husband in 2022. She’s sampled a variety of Village activities. She is very grateful for the Village friendships and networks she’s developing. Jinny also enjoys time with the grandkids, both here and in Ohio, along with walks, reading, gardening, and frequent visits to area libraries.
