Care Committee Updates
VILLAGER TO VILLAGER:
Share your Experience!
Each month this website and the Vibes provide information gathered by the Care Committee to help members deal with health-related issues. There are two sources of information on this subject: external and internal. External sources include reputable articles on a subject related to healthcare, and internal sources are experiences that members have lived through dealing with healthcare issues. So, I am asking each member of TVSD that if they have experiences that could be useful for dissemination to other villagers in our community, please write them up and send them to me: Marc Narkus-Kramer

Prepare a Digital Estate Plan
for Future Caregivers
With the book, I kept the utilities on at my mother's house, paid her mortgage and other bills, and handled insurance, work benefits and disability applications. When she died, the book helped me liquidate her assets, finalize her debts, and share the news of her passing through her email accounts and social media.
My mom's estate planning legal documents did not include a digital plan, which was not uncommon in 2010 when she made her will. So, even though she told me I had permission, I had no true legal authority to access her online accounts and digital property. Her foresight in creating the little black book helped me get by, but there is certainly a better way and many more options for digital planning today than there were even a few short years ago.
Why digital planning matters
Our digital assets (websites we own, blogs, art, music, writing, business websites, cryptocurrency and so much more) and digital information (email, social media and banking accounts) exist in our digital devices such as our computers and smartphones.Digital Estate Plan

Best Buy Scam Scams and Alerts
San Diegans have been the focus of scam phone calls from IRS and SSA
According to Rep. Scott Peters, recently, we have been the target of scammers impersonating the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
He offers these cautions to keep us safe:
1) You should not give the caller any personal information.
2) Never wire money or add money to a pre-paid debit card.
3) Know that the IRS or the SSA do not contact people over the phone, let alone threaten them.
If you should receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and report it to Office of the Inspector General's fraud line at (800) 269-0271.
Additional/amplifying information on the above can be found under the Resources/Health and Wellness Menu at the top of the Home Page, or navigate directly with this Button Health & Wellness
Chronic Pain Workshop
TVSD has received a request to collaborate with AIS to host a series of six workshops for Chronic Pain starting on September 10, 2019.
We want to know if our membership is interested in participating in this free program.
The workshops are held for 21/2 hours, once a week for six consecutive weeks. The building curriculum covers how to manage chronic pain, exercises, use of medications, communication and nutrition. The workshop curriculum is evidence-based and was originally developed at Stanford University.
At least 10 participants are needed to start the workshop so let Cassandra know if you are interested so we can make this series of workshops happen.
